Shoppers Get Sneak Peak Of New Target Store In King Of Prussia

Posted: Updated:

KING OF PRUISSA, Pa.-Shoppers got a sneak peak of the mega Target store located by the King of Prussia mall on Tuesday.

FOX 29's Dave Kinchen gives us an inside look.

The long-awaited opening will give KOP the largest Target store on the east coast, according Upper Merion Township officials.

Family members of 250 newly hired workers got a sneak peek at 135-thousand square feet of produce, household items and entertainment sections of the store before the general public on Tuesday.

"I got a granddaughter here, so we're going to shop for her first, clothing, then shopping for my oldest, 16-year-old, and then browse around for the house,” said shopper Ladonna Skillom.

HR Director Jacalyn Moretto gave FOX 29 the grand tour.

She says the grocery section is nearly 40% larger than most Target stores, and there's an expanded electronics area with a technological twist.

“Some of the new items that we have right here are interactive i-Pads for our guests to just grab a seat, look for their product online. We have team members that will be helping them," she said.

There are other differences as well.

"The design outside is different. So it's elevated above the parking garage, so you can see it from the street,” she said

However, that means more traffic in a crowded part of Montgomery County, which already is home to the largest mall out east.

But township officials say it's all under control.

"Traffic is always a concern in Upper Merion Township, but I feel really good that most of the traffic that will occur at Target will occur on Saturdays and Sundays, which generally speaking has less traffic than say Mondays and Fridays during rush hour,” said Upper Merion Township Supervisor Greg Waks.

Store employees say they will take any bump in traffic that comes their way.

The store will open to the general public on Sunday at 8 a.m.
