7-Year-Old With Cerebral Palsy Runs The Bases At Citizens Bank Park

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA - A 7-year-old girl who lives with a debilitating illness has the heart of a champion. On Thursday, she got to live out a dream at the ball park.

FOX 29's Thalia Perez explains the importance of today's event for the girl and her family.

Approximately 2,000 kids ran the bases. However, for Devon Reed, who suffers from cerebral palsy, her dad says crossing home plate is a dream come true.

"Devon was diagnosed at 15 months with cerebral palsy. "For the most part, it's such a broad range. We don't know what tomorrow is gonna bring and let alone two years from now so for now we just continue to go along with her therapies and live every day and enjoy it," said her dad Brian Reed.

To the sound of cheering and with every bit of momentum she had, Devon Reed crossed home plate at Citizens Bank Park.

"Every day can be a struggle, but Devon’s disposition and the kind of kid she is makes it that much easier,” said her dad.

Devon is in physical, occupational and speech therapy, and just like every other kid she loves to run and play. Her dad says she also loves baseball.

"Early on she was spelling Phillies probably before she was spelling any word,” he said.

Besides baseball, she's a fan of Good Day Philadelphia. Mike Jerrick introduced a photo of Devon and her mom Lauren last summer during the ‘Look At Me FOX 29’ part of the show.

It’s clear, Devon is an amazing little girl who never stops smiling and laughing. As she grows up , her dad says he plans to keep his advice consistent

“Just strive to be the best you can. And whether you have a disability or not do the most with what you have,” he said.
