Air wing at McGuire gets new commander

MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. (AP) - A military unit at New Jersey's Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst has a new commander.

Col. James Copher took over the 621st contingency response wing on Thursday. He succeeds Col. Martin Chapin.

Copher's last assignment was in Southwest Asia.

The wing rapidly deploys 1,500 troops to open and operate airfields and to coordinate air mobility operations.

Copher is a pilot with more than 3,500 flying hours in various military aircraft.
