'Wish Upon A Wedding' Grants Couple Wedding Of Their Dreams

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A Camden County couple got the wedding of their dreams at the Hotel Monaco in Old City on Thursday. The wedding was all planned and paid for through Wish Upon a Wedding, which is an organization that helps those with terminal illnesses say, "I do."

The first thing you notice about Pierre Freeman and Melanie Gaskins is how much they laugh, even goofing around for FOX 29 cameras when we caught up with them one day before their special day.

Pierre and Melanie are madly in love. They fell head over heels in 2005. Three years later, doctors told Pierre he had an inoperable brain tumor. Then, came the secondary cancers; liver, lung, and bone. However, the couple focuses on the good that has come from their battles with disease.

"Going through this disease, I've done stuff I've never done before. I see strangers and I can see that they're sad. I just go up to them and say, 'I love you. Can I give you a hug because it seems like you need a hug?'” said Pierre.

Marriage is something Pierre and Melanie have always wanted, but it seemed too overwhelming with Pierre's ongoing fight against cancer.

But then came "Wish Upon a Wedding."

"It's more than anything I know we could have done for ourselves and it's really like a dream come true,” said Melanie.

Wish Upon a Wedding took care of the wedding planner, musicians, and everything else for their dream day. And surrounded by family and friends, two became one.

And what you might not know by looking at the new Mr. and Mrs. Freeman are the socks the groom has on. He's wearing Superman socks because just like the superhero, Pierre and his Lois Lane, Melanie, expect to leap tall buildings one day, and finally beat the disease they refuse to let hold them back.
