Police Search For Suspects In Robberies Believed To Be Targeting The Elderly

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA - The search is on for two men accused of a string robberies that have victimized the elderly from Northeast Philadelphia to Northern Liberties since April. One suspect is under arrest while authorities work on zeroing in on the suspected mastermind.

FOX 29's Dave Schratwieser reports.

Philadelphia Police say the public helped identify the suspects. According to investigators, Keith Perkins is in custody. Perkins has 16 prior arrests. Singleton and Joseph Donaldson are still on the run.

“Broken noses, lacerations, lot of dignity and pride, the elderly sometimes just don't bounce back from things like this,” said Northeast Detectives Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum.

Singleton was caught on tape in several robberies. Investigators say he followed victims ranging in age from 44 to 96 in a silver Malibu, each time tracking them from local banks to their homes where he would then rob them of all their money.

“You're walking into your house and you get attacked,” said Rosenbaum.

Neighbors on the 1000 block of Saint Vincent Street are still worried and looking over their shoulders after an elderly resident was followed home from two local banks, attacked and robbed in his own garage.

In one case, an 80-year-old man went to a PNC bank on Cottman, and was followed inside by Singleton, according to police. Authorities say Singleton stood behind him in line, then followed him out and to another bank nearby. When the victim arrived home, police say, Singleton was right behind him in the silver Malibu. According to investigators, Singleton entered the garage, punched the victim and robbed him all his money.

“We had the public's help in finding and identifying them, now we need the help to get them off the street,” said Rosenbaum.

The three suspects have 30 prior arrests between them.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Singleton or Donaldson, please call Northeast Detective Division 215-686-3153/3154 or East Detective Division 215-686-3243/3244/.
